India grouped with Pakistan in Asian Games hockey


New Delhi, Aug 20 (IANS): With the forthcoming 17th Asian Games set to commence Sep 19, the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Wednesday announced the pools for both men's and women's events.

Among the men, two-time winners India have been placed in Pool B alongside defending champions Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Oman and China while South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Bangladesh and Singapore are in Pool A.

In the women’s category, India are in Pool A with holders China, Malaysia and Thailand while South Korea, Japan, Kazakhstan and Hong Kong are in Pool B.

The gold medal-winning teams will be ensured of a 2016 Olympic berth at Rio de Janeiro.
