Brisk voting in Madhya Pradesh by-elections


Bhopal, Aug 21 (IANS): Brisk polling was recorded in three assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh Thursday, with one constituency recording a 41.02 percent in the first six-and-a-half hours.

Voters were seen queuing up to exercise their franchise at 7 a.m. in Vijayraghavgarh, Bahoriband and Agar constituencies, the officials added.

Vijayraghavgarh recorded 39.38 percent voter's turnout, while Bahoriband and Agar registered 34.72 and 41.30 percent voters' turnout till 1.30 p.m., election officials said.

Voting remained peaceful in the three constituencies, officials said.

Over six lakh voters in the three constituencies are eligible to exercise their franchise to decide the fate of 25 candidates.

The fate of 10 candidates in Vijayraghavgarh assembly constituency, 10 in Bahoriband and five in Agar will be decided in the by-election.

The voting will continue till 6 p.m.

Personnel of paramilitary forces were deployed in the three constituencies to keep a check on the law and order situation.
