Ancelotti confirms Di Maria transfer request

Madrid, Aug 22 (IANS): Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the club's Argentinean international winger Angel Di Maria had asked for a transfer.

Ancelotti's comment confirmed the rumours that have been circulating about the 26-year-old, who was one of Real Madrid's most incisive players in the second half of last season as the club won the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, Xinhua reported Friday.

Before injury Di Maria also played a starring role for Argentina in the World Cup finals, but perhaps as a result of attempts by the club to move him on a year ago after signing Gareth Bale from Tottenham, Di Maria has been unsettled at Real Madrid and this summer has seen rumours that both Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United want to buy him.

Those rumours will only get stronger after Ancelotti used his press conference ahead of the second leg of the Spanish Supercup to confirm: "Di Maria asked to leave this summer and turned down an offer to renew his contract. He is looking for a solution for himself."

The transfer window closes at the end of the month and there is a chance a transfer might not happen, in which case Ancelotti left a door open for the player.

"If he is still here, he will work with us as he did last season and there is no problem about that."

Another player whose days at Real Madrid could be numbered is World Cup winner Sami Khedira after the coach confirmed the midfielder had "rejected an offer to renew his contract."

That means Khedira will either be sold this summer or in January or leave for free at the end of June 2015.
