Panaji, Sep 6: Bina Ramani was arrested by the Police in Goa on Wednesday two days after the Patiala court issued a non-bailable warrant against her for allegedly lying to the police about the ownership of the Tamarind Court restaurant.

Prime witness in the Jessica Lall murder case, Bina Ramani, is seen coming out of the Panaji women's cell police station, after arrest in Calangute on late September 6 evening

Model Jessica Lal was murdered in the Tamirind Restaurant. The Delhi Police has also charged her for having an illegal liquor licence for the restaurant and not co-operating in the investigation.

Bina Ramani on the other hand denied all these allegations. On the charge of possessing an illegal liquor license she said, “We were charged for not having liquor license, for that we were shut down for six years.”

And for not co-operating with the police Ramani retorted, “That is absolutely not true. We have been cooperating with the Police right from the time of the murder. We have been at their beck and call from the first day.”

Expressing dismay at the attitude of the Police, Ramani counter charged saying that they were sent a long questionnaire every Sunday that was to be filled and returned by Monday.

Moreover, she alleged that the Police was unnecessarily prying into their private lives by seeking details that were not connected with the case. Quoting examples she said the Police had sought information about the man she was married to 20 years ago plus the income details for the same period, which she felt was ridiculous.

Ramani emphasised that she had revealed to the Police everything relevant to the case already. She also completely rejected the allegation that there was any ownership problem with the Tamirind Court restaurant.
