New Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS): A court here Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of the alleged middleman in the Syndicate Bank bribery case, Purushottam Lal Totlani, who is on the run.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Swarna Kanta Sharma rejected Totlani's anticipatory bail plea.
The court last week initiated proceedings to declare him as a proclaimed offender in the case.
The court observed that non-bailable warrants were earlier issued against him twice in the case and Totlani was evading arrest in the case.
Bhushan Steel Ltd.'s vice-chairman Neeraj Singhal and Syndicate Bank chairman-cum-managing director S.K. Jain, among others, are accused in the case.
The CBI had Aug 2 arrested Jain for allegedly taking Rs.50 lakh in bribe for raising the credit limit of some companies in violation of banking rules. Singhal was arrested Aug 7.
