Muslim cleric in Kerala issues Fatwa against ISIS

Kozhikode, Aug 30 (PTI): A noted Muslim cleric in Kerala today issued a fatwa asking his community members to boycott the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other terrorist organisations.

In his religious decree, General Secretary of All India Sunni Jam-e-yyathul Ulema, Shaikh Abu Bakr Ahmad said favouring the extremist organisations is antithetical to the Islamic Shariah.

"The Muslim world is in dire need to take cognisance of the threats posed by the anti-Islamic outfits. The militant groups among Muslims are causing harm to Islam in the false garb of Islamists. Any support or endorsement to the extremist and terrorist organisations goes completely against the Islamic Shariah," the Sunni-Sufi Islamic scholar said.

Stating that the ISIS or their self proclaimed Khalifates does not represent Islam by any means, the fatwa said, "They are not just anti-Islamic but are enemies of the humanity."

"Their ruthless activities against people in Iraq and Syria are not meant for helping Muslims but defame Islam. Their anti-western interpretation of Islam is only aimed to serve their political agendas in the wider Muslim world.

"Supporting their activities through any means is forbidden according to the basic principles of Islam. I urge all the Muslims to condemn their activities and to pray for the people who suffer from their merciless activities," he said.

Very good move! appreciate it! however, it will fall on deaf ears, of those brainwashed youth in various part of india!! .... "Wahabism" sponsored by Al saud, is the problem everywhere! they are intolerant of rest of the sects like Shia, Sufism which has contributed majorly in India/pakistan!! however, where ever Sunni's are minority (iraq, pak, india, norway, america) they feel persecuted and take path of jehad! thats my view! cos, they have messed up the the whole meaning of islam and holy book! hope sanity prevails!

If muslims keep mum some people have problem..Even if they issue fatwa you have problem....If muslim doesnt condemn each and ever terrorist action you have problem even if the condemn you have problem...Unless some muslims utter they are Indian and love country in open till then have suspicion regarding his patriotism.....
Paki, terrorism, jihad has become code word for us by some elements to taunt us I dont know what type of wild enjoyment they are getting with their sadistic move....We are measured with different yardstick this is reality.....Even if a person from other community meets hafeez saeed he is hailed as patriot what if a muslim had met...There would have been riots...
Patriotism is not measured by shouting in open it must be in heart....

Isis or al khaida ect have nothing to do the religion of islam.Islam strictly prohibits the bloodbath of innocent civilians. There are conditions for legitimate jihad we can see in quran and hadees. But practically in iraq or syria there are fight in between deferent groups with their own ambitions for political and authoritarian reasons which are uneslamic.

I really appreciate his efforts and courage in coming out and issuing a Fatwa whether it makes any difference or not. At least this would help in rethinking by those Indians who were planning to join the outfit. These organizations are nothing but selfish people who wants kill people in the name of religion and terrorize the world. Muslims here in the US are already feeling the heat among the public. Many of our friends who are secular and wants to lead a decent life here are now worried as they have nowhere to go in case of any problem here.

Fully agree with Mr. Charles, Issuing Fatwa here in Kerala is make no difference to them or anyone. It shows the disapproval from the clerics community. Please go to Iraq and convince them and stop the ISIS

Dear Jagadish it does make a difference. Like this if many prominent Indian Muslim clerics and leaders issue such statements in public, at least some misguided youth may realize their mistakes. It is indeed a positive step.

We have people who follow the third law of Motion ( By Newton ) by following ''For every action there is equal and opposite reaction """...So it makes no difference with any community/ religion. The spade pulls the soil towards the person only.

Goem be-mushkil, na goem be mushkil. If Muslim clerics keep quite you have a problem, and if they issue a Fatwa to condemn terrorism and not to support the terrorist organizations, again you people have problem. Please remove the hatred toward fellow religions as no one is permanent in this world and time is too short for hatred. I welcome the initiative taken Ulema, Shaikh Abu Bakr Ahmad.

He is the real Muslim. What he told is what islam teach's to us. And i am seeing some peoples comment like he should go to Iraq.. For your information, he already visited to Iraq, Syria and other places were these fights going on. He already met all Muslim leaders of the World. So, he knows what he have to do. So, don't advise him. He is a leader of All indian muslims.and his voice is like all muslims voice. So, if any 1 doing good things just leave him to do. Please
don't think negative always. We have to support peoples who come forward and do things like this.
    Thank you all.
