Shoe worker battered to death in Agra


Agra, Sep 1 (IANS) A 20-year-old shoe worker died Monday after being severely beaten with iron rods in Agra's Transport Nagar area, police said.

Suraj succumbed to the injuries after he was severely assaulted by criminals and history sheeters in Transport Nagar Sunday.

Meanwhile, police has registered a case against Baigon alias Yusuf and his three friends under SC/ST Act, arson and murder.

Two other family members, who were injured in the attack, remain critical, police said.

As a reaction, his family members and "basti-wallahs" came on the streets and blocked traffic for several hours past midnight.

They also torched a "khokha" and pelted stones on police.

Senior police officials were camping in the area and additional forces were deployed in the sensitive basties Monday.
