Four killed in Assam pipeline blast


Guwahati, Sep 1 (IANS): Four people were killed and six others injured in an explosion Monday in a pipeline of the Assam Gas Company in Sivasagar district, police said.

The explosion took place in the pipeline near the Singrijan tea estate in Moranhat around 3.30 a.m.

Following the blast, the blaze in the pipeline spread to some areas of the tea estate, killing 35-year-old Jyoti Sabar.

Nine other people were injured, of whom three - Michel Tapno (30), Paras Sarma (28) and Bhasan Sarma (35) - later died in a hospital, police said.

Six injured people are undergoing treatment at the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh.

Police said six houses and livestock were burnt in the explosion.
