New Mangalore-Bangalore train journey to take 13 hours

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (EP)

Mangalore, Sep 1: The timings for the Mangalore-Bangalore train announced by union railway minister Sadananda Gowda have been fixed, but the request by the people of the coastal region that it should pass through Arasikere has not been fulfilled.

As per the timings, the journey from Mangalore to Bangalore may take 13 hours.

According to available sources, the train will start from Mangalore central at 6.30 am and will travel via Mysore. The train will reach at Mysore at 4.15 pm and Bangalore at 7.30 pm.

Similarly, the train starting from Bangalore at 8.30 am will be reaching Mysore at 12 noon and Mangalore Central station at 9.15 pm.

However, there is no official notification on when the train service would start.

The train that runs between Karwar-Mangalore-Bangalore via Arsikere runs for three days in a week. It reaches within ten hours. But as the new train runs on a different route, it will take 13 hours.

As per Western Railways Passengers Welfare Committee, the need was for a Mangalore-Bangalore night train. It had to run via Arsikere for the benefit of passengers. If that happened, the travellers also could have saved time.

Meanwhile, the time table for new Kasargod-Byndoor train has been released but official confirmation is awaited. The train will start from Kasargod at 6.40 am, will reach Mangalore Junction (Kankanady) at 8.05 am and reach Byndoor at 11.50 am. It will start at Byndoor at 1.05 pm and will reach Mangalore Junction at 4.50 pm and Kasargod at 6.10 pm, source said. The request of the coastal people that the train should pass through Mangalore Central has remained unfulfilled.

Mangalore people had asked for one more night train and not day train.
But the Bus Lobby managed to change the timing from night to day.
One train carries around 1500 passengers which is equal to 35 buses. Which means at least 35 buses would have lost their passengers completely.
Whether it is UPA Govt or NDA govt, it is the Bus Lobby and the Malayali Lobby which have last laugh always.
Now this Day train will surely run in loss for lack of passengers and will be stopped after few days under this pretext.

It is a waste of a day's journey. I had travelled once with family and was quite tired at the end of the day, other then the beautiful scenery. Also, if we reach so late at either B'lore or M'lore, it will quite a lot of trouble to arrange a vehicle to reach our doorstep.

My goodness, if it takes forever to make the cement road, as it usually does, how long should families postpone their visits ?

    I'm feeling homesick already.....

Dear our own honorable Railway minister DVS,it is very bad taste for the coastal people.Generally people prefer to reach their respective destinations as early as possible either by bus or train at reasonable, affordable price structure. But in this new Mangalore-Bangalore train journey,13 hours to reach Bangalore is too rubbish, normally it takes hardly 6-7 hours by bus and by flight those who can afford, even lesser time i.e hardly one hour.Don't you think that this is the clear indication of favouring private bus operators(Mafia) at the cost of middle and poor people who are living in coastal region. What is the usefor the people ?.How much money, bus operator(mafia) poured money into the department to modernize your railway system?.Honorable minister, being you are from the coastal region only, you must have studied the implications/situations well before introducing new train to Bangalore.Your stand on this issue shows that you playing a double standard and changing the colour like chameleon.Be trustworthy to your own people and don't play politics. We are expecting many things from you DVS sir.Don't betray us.Try to maximum facilities and convenience to the people of entire country in general and coastal people in particular

This new train will benefit only those traveling from Mangalore to Mysore and from Mysore to Bangalore and not for those traveling from origin to destination i.e M’lore to B’lore. This train is meant for those traveling for sightseeing and pleasure trips. It may run full only during festive seasons and holidays.

I only hope Mr DVS would take the time to read peoples comments on this article. It clearly shows that it is of no interest and help to the common man. We all need to stand and just see this act just like any other helpless Indian. I just wish the Minister should be forced to travel in this train to understand the loss of time and waste of money. India can never improve. Only the ministers will...Hail DVS !!!

Please note this is all due to HMRDA. HMRDA is PPP and they financed the Broad Gauge from Sakhleshpur to Subramanya Road. They have a contact with Indian Railways for 20 years. Contract says that max of 4 passenger Trains can run and in night one passenger train can run. Due to this restrictions Railway Minister was not able to run the new train at night. Even after completion of Sravanabelagola to Nelamangala line by March 2016 the new Kudla Express will run through this line and total time will come down to 9 hrs still they will not able to run this train in the night. Railway Minister had a negotiation with HMRDA and they are not ready for any deviation. The only option is doubling of lines in some places between Sakleskpur and Subramanya Road. Till that time nothing is going to change.

Jesintha, You said it right! Had British rules India for another 20 years there would have been better tracks and roads and less corruption! Our railway should be talking about 4 hour journey between Mangalore Bangalore! Look at Europe mountains and the roads and train tracks. Given 10 years, cost and repair may cost us more than their, yet poor quality job! Our engineers are either corrupt or under pressure!

It is a good move by the railway minister.I would request railway minister now we want more track not train if we have track the train will increase at present we are having single track which the minister should see to have double or triple track.Always the Railway minister will make the people happy by saying we have increased the train but not saying they have increased the track. We require more track then the travel time will be reduce considerably and the passenger can finish the job in same day.Once again request to our honourable Railway minister Shri Sadanand Gowda make more track to run more train then to run on single track.

    Actions speak louder than words.
    Our party?
    Our MP?
    Our Minister?
    Our Welfare?

I am wondering how loudly THEY must be laughing, what kind of fools is made of us - the eager people awaiting their new train.

Sometimes and at desperate times, thought comes to me - we must thank the British for
    - uniting India as a country - else our local fiefdom would have still survived and there would have been more wars, we still have royal families fighting for properties taken over by the GOVERNMENT, which actually belong to the nation
    - doing the meager development in those times - where technology and machinery were sparse - we are still running a train for 13 hours to reach a distance of less than 400 km, not able to build a bridge on time and in budget, wanting Japanese technology to build a city, or world bank finances to build our highways.

British looted us, but they also did few things for us, which we are not able to surpass. The Mangalore Bangalore train is the standing example. I am not talking of any government, I am talking of Railways, city corporations, municipalities, companies and the like. The intention of any/all of these is to take out their MONEY, the nation or the people can wait.
    CORRUPTION in yet another form.

Travellers are looted in buses, how can single passenger travel? How will families have the pleasure of meeting each other with these exorbitant bus fare? And our train takes 13 hours scheduled time, add another two for the delays.

    Dear Railway Minister Sadanand Gowdaji,
    1. Please start Mangalore to Bangalore via Arsikere daily night Trains for commuters benefit and to save time.
    2. Lay two tracks(2) (presently there is one)from Mangalore to Mumbai.
    3. Mangalore bound Trains from North halts at VASAI (W.Rly).
But Mumbai Suburban C.Rly has no halt.
So please make DIVA JUNCTION as halt for C.Rly.
    4. Make A separate Railway division for Mangalore region, separate it from the Palakkad.
    5. Make all railway stations look clean and Posh. There should be Canteen, Clean Toilets, Mini Mall, Dispensary and Postal Service at all Railway stations.
