Mayors from 60 countries expected for Hyderabad conference


Hyderabad, Sep 2 (IANS): Mayors and experts in urban management from 60 countries will attend the Metropolis conference scheduled here next month.

Around 2,000 delegates including commissioners, town planning Officers and experts in municipal administration will attend the four-day conference, beginning Oct 7. It has been called by Metropolis, the world association of major metropolises, is the leading international organisation that gathers cities and metropolitan regions with more than a million population.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who reviewed the arrangements for the conference with top officials Tuesday, called for making the event successful.

Alian Lesaux, secretary general, Metropolis and Agnes Bickart, manager, Metropolis Tuesday called on the chief minister and thanked him for taking the initiative to host the conference.

They told him that 566 delegates from 43 countries have already registered for the event.

The conference will be a sort of joint learning among delegates from different countries. Experts in municipal administration and governance will address the delegates. They would discuss the issues arising out of urbanisation and methods to overcome them, said a statement from the chief minister's office.
