Ashok Leyland bags orders worth over Rs.1,500 crore


Chennai, Sep 9 (IANS): Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland Ltd Tuesday said it has received orders for around 4,000 buses valued at around Rs.1,500 crore from 22 state transport undertakings (STUs).

The company in a statement here said it has received the orders under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM)-II.

According to Vinod K. Dasari, managing director, the orders include over 2,000 JanBus, its front-engine single-step entry, full flat bus designed for urban transport.

"We have also received orders from the international market for the bus and soon JanBus will be running in many countries," Dasari was quoted as saying in the statement.

Ashok Leyland will offer a mix of JanBus, midi-buses and Ultra Low Entry (ULE) buses as part of the 4,000 buses ordered under JNNURM-II.
