Rare 232-carat white diamond unearthed in South Africa

Pretoria, Sep 9 (IANS/ITAR -TASS): An "exceptional" 232-carat white diamond has been discovered at South Africa's most famous Cullinan mine, Petra Diamonds company said Tuesday.

"The stone is... a diamond of exceptional size and clarity, and is a magnificent example of the large, high quality diamonds for which the mine is known," the diamond miner said.

The company said it expected the diamond to be sold by the end of its current fiscal year.

The Cullinan mine is known as the source of the largest rough gem diamond ever found. Unearthed in 1905, the 3,106-carat gem was cut into two for Britain’s Crown Jewels.
