Army working day and night for Kashmir relief: Gen Suhag


Srinagar, Sep 10 (IANS): Army chief Gen. Dalbir Singh Suhag Wednesday said the situation has improved in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, and the army was working day and night to provide relief to those affected.

"Relief and rescue operations are on. The situation has improved a lot. More boats have come today (Wednesday), we have enough boats now," said Gen. Suhag, who visited the flood-hit state Wednesday.

"We now need to supply food, water and medicines to people in need. All resources available with us have been pressed into action," he said.

The army chief assured that the forces will help everyone.

"The army is there, no doubt about it. Evacuation operations are being carried out day and night. We are supplying all essentials, food, water, blankets, medical facilities... we have got additional medical teams," he said.

Gen. Suhag said communication was likely to be restored in 3-4 days.

"Communication is being restored. We have given satellite phones. Mobile communication will restart in many areas in 3-4 days," he said.
