Ahmedabad, Sep 12: Union home minister Rajnath Singh has landed in a new controversy, after getting his shoelaces tied by a Jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF). Although it has become common for political leaders to get this service done through their followers, and higher authorities in police department getting it done through employees in the lower rungs, this incident in which an armyman's services were utilized, has given rise to bitter criticism of the minister.
The incident occurred when the minister visited Kutch border between India and Pakistan on Wednesday for inspection. BSF personnel had escorted Singh to various landmarks in Kutch region, and during this visit, Rajnath sat on a chair for rest.

A BSF Jawan tied his shoelaces as the minister took rest from a tiring tour of this dry belt. It is said that one of his security men also got involved with this task.
Cameramen of some television channels who were present on the spot recorded the incident. The scene was telecast by several channels and posted on the internet. People came out strongly against this action, and lack of respect shown by the minister towards people serving in the army. Thousands poured out their resentment at this act through social media.
The home minister however, is yet to give his response to the criticism heaped on him.
