China sentences three Kunming attack accused to death


Beijing, Sep 12 (IANS): A Chinese court Friday sentenced three people to death and one to life imprisonment for their involvement in a terror attack at Kunming railway station March 1.

Iskandar Ehet, Turgun Tohtunyaz and Hasayn Muhammad were sentenced by the Kunming Municipal Intermediate People's Court to death for leading a terrorist organisation and intentional homicide, Xinhua reported.

A fourth suspect, Patigul Tohti, has been sentenced to life for taking part in the attack as well as intentional homicide.

The public trial of the four began earlier Friday.

On March 1, a group of assailants armed with knives attacked civilians at the Kunming railway station in China's southwestern province of Yunnan, killing 31 people and injuring 141.

Police shot dead four of the attackers and arrested the other four who stood trial.
