Morocco dismantles IS recruitment cell

Rabat, Sep 12 (IANS): Moroccan authorities have dismantled a seven-person cell recruiting volunteers to fight with the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, the country's interior ministry said Friday.

The cell was led by an elementary school teacher and recruited jihadis in the central cities of Fez, Outat El Haj and Zayou, Xinhua reported citing the ministry.

All the seven people were arrested, according to the ministry.

Last July, Moroccan Interior Minister Mohamed Hassad said in a parliamentary session that 1,122 Moroccan citizens and 2,000 others of Moroccan origin with European passports were enrolled in jihadi and terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq.
