No idea what 'love jihad' is: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS): Home Minister Rajnath Singh Friday said he had "no idea" what "love jihad" was even as his party leaders are raking up the issue.

"What is love jihad"? Rajnath Singh said when questioned by reporters on the issue at a press conference here on the first 100 days of his ministry.

"What is this. I don't know. I have no idea," he said.

Many BJP leaders, especially from Uttar Pradesh, have raised the issue.

"Love jihad" is a term used by Hindu hardliners for Muslim youth marrying Hindu girls who are later converted to Islam.

The home minister also said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government will not discriminate against anyone in the country on the basis of religion.

"Minorities should have faith in our government. We will not discriminate against anyone in the name of religion or caste. We will ensure justice to everyone. Injustice will not happen to anyone," he said.

The minister was replying to a question on alleged incarceration of many "innocent" Muslim youth on terror charges in different jails in the country.

    VHP's president Ashok singhal's daughter married to muslim.

    BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi's daughter married to muslim

    BJP leader Subhramnaym sawmi's daughter (suhasini) married to muslim.

    BJP leader LK Advani's niece married (second marriage) to muslim.

    Now they are all OK with that but common hindu girl married to muslim its Love Jihad and if common muslim girl marries a Hindu its Garv ki Batth. what a hypocrites.

    Rajnath Singh and all BJP leaders know that LOVE JIHAD doesn’t exist. But they are also aware that they succeeded in fooling certain % voters by highlighting these kinds of fundas. Despite 800 years of Muslim Rule and 200 years of British Rule, Hinduism has survived and even today Hindus are in Majority in India It is totally impossible to believe that such an overwhelming majority can be in danger for the minorities. And not merely a majority of numbers, but a majority in every aspect of state – legislation, utive, judiciary, press, military, etc..

    Despite the interreligious harmony, conversions do happen in India, but state has nothing to do with it. The Constitution of India has given us a fundamental right to accept and profess a faith of our own choice. What makes the people to give up the beloved faith of their ancestors is the most important question. The hostile approach of the upper-class Hinds towards the depressed classes make the poor people to incline towards any love shown by others.The above examples light up the fact that if there is any real danger to Hinduism in a long run, it is from the fundamentalist Hindus themselves who have hijacked the term Hindu for their selfish aims.

    Good question "Mr. Home Minister". Terms like "Love Jihad" is used by your street workers so that you become the Home Minister. You can afford to act ignorant in public and tell your poll campaigners in private to use it to gain votes.May I ask you who coined this term?
