Second Women of India Leadership Summit to be held Sep 18-20

New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS): The second edition of the Women of India Leadership Summit, aimed towards working to make the country a safe and secure place for women, will be held here Sep 18-20. Names like Naina Lal Kidwai and Poonam Bhagat will be among the speakers at the event.

The theme of the "solution-based" summit this year is 'Invest in Yourself'.

Talking about the initiative, Divya Chandra, founder, Women of India Leadership Summit, said: "The aim of the Summit is that by 2020, Delhi should stop being known as the rape capital of the country and instead be the place where women have created enough safety and security for themselves by being in charge of all that helps them become independent and safe."

The event creates space for both urban men and women to talk about issues that affect them.

The organisers are expecting a mix of school and college students, professional men and women, parents and senior citizens to attend the event "as we have specially drafted sessions for each age group and interests".

"What is common is a deep desire to create change, in active participation and not just complaining about how bad things are in our country; that is the key factor present in our audience," Chandra said.

Apart from Kidwai and Bhagat, the panelists this time include names like Emmy Award winner Kaizaad Kotwal, TV journalist and documentary filmmaker Revati Laul and standup comedian Aditi Mittal.

"We have 33 speakers from all walks of life, including lawyers, as well as speakers with a background in art, entrepreneurship, finance and fashion amongst others," Chandra said.

There will be panel discussions, experiential workshops and talks at the event, which has been founded by sisters Divya and Mudita Chandra.

Those interested to attend the summit at the India Islamic Cultural Centre can register online via its official website.
