Bengal sends drinking water pouches to flood-hit Kashmir

Kolkata, Sep 13 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday announced the dispatch of drinking water pouches for people in flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.

"A large number of my brothers and sisters in Kashmir are extremely distressed due to massive floods. A huge number of tourists from various places are also stranded in Kashmir. Many tourists from my state (Bengal) are stranded there as well. In this hour of crisis, we expect everyone to cooperate.

"For immediate relief, we are sending drinking water pouches to the flood-affected areas," Banerjee posted on her official Facebook page.

The Trinamool Congress supremo pledged support to the region.

"We are by their side and hope that flood water would soon recede and people would get back to their normal lives," she said.

Jammu and Kashmir is battling the worst floods in 60 years, which have left over 200 people dead. About four lakh people are still marooned in Srinagar.
