Seven killed in China downpour


Beijing, Sep 14 (IANS): At least seven people were killed in China due to heavy rain, authorities said Sunday.

Heavy downpour battered most parts of Sichuan province starting Friday. As of Sunday, 2,000 homes had toppled in six cities, Xinhua quoted the provincial flood control headquarters as saying.

Authorities have relocated over 23,300 people to safer places and rescued 604 people.

The rain has affected about 2,694 hectares of farmland and thousands of livestock in the region.

Meanwhile, the national meteorological centre again gave an alert for heavy rain in the country.
