Konkani Catholic Association (KCA) Ranchi Monti Fest Celebration

Konkani Catholic Association (KCA) Ranchi celebrated annual Monti Fest in, Carmel School, Shamlong, Ranchi, Jharkhand on 14th September, 2014. The celebration started with the Holy Eucharist Presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Prasad Pinto OFM Cap., the Rector of St. Albert’s College (Pontifical Major Seminary), Ranchi. The chief celebrant in his introductory message explained the history of rich tradition about the ‘Monti Fest and Novem.’ Fr. Alwyn Noronha OFM Cap., broke the Word of God. In his homily he stressed the role of Mary in the life of all, especially in priests and religious. The Mass began with the blessing of New Corn and floral tribute to Mother Mary. Sr. Alzeera Vas, the Principal of the School, welcomed the gathering. Fr. Raju Felix Crasta, the Professor of St. Albert’s College was the master of the ceremony who also conducted choir along with Fr. Anand OFM Cap.
Soon after the Mass, Fr. Gilbert D’Souza S.J., blessed the ‘novem’ and distributed to all. Elders from various communities and families came together and cut the festive cake along with Fr. Vijay Kamath S.J., the famous educationist of Ranchi. Dr. Helga D’Costa Chen conducted various group games and ice-breakers.
Delicious meal was the chief attraction of the day. Various items such as ‘sanna, chana, dal, sango, karomb, lonche, mithai…’ were prepared and brought by different communities and families which made us to realize that we, the Konkani speaking people are ONE in heart and mind. The programme was concluded with the traditional song, “Laudate domino...”
