Kolkata, Sep 16 (IANS): The BJP won the West Bengal assembly bypoll from Basirhat (South) constituency while the ruling Trinamool Congress retained Chowringhee when votes were counted Tuesday.
BJP's Shamik Bhattacharya wrested the Basirhat (South) seat which the Left Front major CPI-M had managed to win despite facing a rout in the 2011 assembly polls.
Trinamool nominee Nayna Bandopadhyay emerged triumphant from the Chowringhee assembly constituency.
