AIUDF wins Jamunamukh assembly by-poll


Guwahati, Sep 16 (IANS): AIUDF candidate Abdur Rahim Ajmal Tuesday won the Jamunamukh assembly by-poll in Assam.

"AIUDF candidate Abdur Rahim Ajmal polled a total 62,513 votes and defeated his closest rival Bashir Uddin Laskar of the Congress who polled 39,194 votes," said Assam's Deputy Chief Electoral Officer P.K. Doley.

By-election in this assembly constituency was necessitated after Sirrajuddin Ajmal of the AIUDF was got elected to Lok Sabha.

By-polls were held in Jamunamukh, Silchar and Lakhipur assembly constituencies Saturday.

There were a total of 509,689 electors, including 244,543 women, eligible voters in the three constituencies. Besides, there are another 1,456 service voters in the three legislative assembly constituencies.
