Lightning strike kills six in Odisha


Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (IANS): Six people, among them four women, were killed and one person sustained critical injuries in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district after a shed they shelter under was struck by a lightning Tuesday, police said.

The incident took place near Khunta, about 260 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.

"About 12 labourers had taken shelter in the shed after heavy rain lashed the area," Khunta police station chief K.C. Jani told IANS.

"The labourers were working in a nearby farm land," he said.

"Four women and a man died on the spot while one person died in the local hospital. An injured person is undergoing treatment in the hospital," he added.
