Boy's drowning: NHRC notice to Delhi government


New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS): The NHRC Tuesday issued notice to the Delhi government over drowning of a boy in a pit at a Metro construction site.

On the basis of a media report, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance and issued notice to the chief secretary of the government over the incident, an official said.

The secretary has also been asked to give a factual report within two weeks.

A class 8 student drowned while four others were rescued from a water pit at a Metro construction site in east Delhi Sep 6.

The area residents had alleged that the Metro administration had left the open pit which resulted in the accident.

The commission observed that the contents of the press reports, if true, raise a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim child, the official added.
