Jeddah -  27 September 2006 — An Indian woman in her fifties committed suicide inside her apartment in Ghulail neighborhood, south Jeddah, by hanging herself.

Police found the woman hanging by a rope tied on a ceiling fan. She was wearing normal traditional Indian house clothes. The body was discovered when the husband returned to his apartment coming from work.

According to eyewitnesses on the scene the husband was running and shouting on the street calling for help. Officers from Al-Nuzlateen police station inspected the apartment to collect evidence.

Police have ruled out the possibility of homicide and are interrogating the husband in an effort to discover a motive.

Residents in the area told Arab News that they did not hear any strange noise coming from the house or noticed any suspicious activities. They said that the woman did not show any indication that she might commit suicide. A police source told Arab News that suicide cases in the Kingdom generally involve foreign residents.
