Tripura donates Rs.1 crore to flood-hit J&K

Agartala, Sep 17 (IANS): The Tripura government will contribute Rs.1 crore for the relief of flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir, a minister said here Wednesday.

"Like for the Uttarakhand natural catastrophe last year, Tripura with its limited resources has decided to donate Rs.1 crore towards the relief of flood-stricken people of Jammu and Kashmir," Tripura Information and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhanu Lal Saha told reporters.

He said that the Tripura council of ministers, at its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, took the decision after discussing the colossal flood and trail of destruction unseen for decades in mountainous Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, as part of its nationwide move, the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has also appealed to the people of Tripura to donate generously for the distressed people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The CPI-M leaders and workers are now visiting door-to-door to collect donations from the people.
