Tibetans protest Chinese president's visit

New Delhi, Sep 18 (IANS) Tibetan refugees Thursday staged a protest in south Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area against Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to India, police said.

"At least eight Tibetan protesters were detained as they were marching towards the Taj Palace Hotel where the Chinese president is staying," said a police officer.

Police said that security has been beefed up at the Hyderabad House as the protesters are likely to stage a demonstration there at 11 a.m.

Xi, on a three-day visit to India, is scheduled to hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Hyderabad House later in the day.

The Chinese president arrived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Wednesday and flew to the national capital later the same evening.
