Pakistan's flood-hit to receive aid before Eid

Islamabad, Sep 18 (IANS): Under a chief minister's package for the flood-hit people of Pakistan's Punjab province, each family will be given a one-time financial aid before Eid al-Adha Oct 4.

According to officials, the amount received will be Rs.25,000 ($243), Dawn online reported Thursday.

An official from Dera Ghazi Khan area said that other losses in the form of property and life were being assessed but their payments would be made after Eid.

A total of 43,000 people have been evacuated from the flood-hit areas in various parts of the province, the officials said.

The number of villages under water is 361.

As the floodwater started receding from city areas, thousands of people could be seen camping along roads and railway lines as the district administration failed to provide them with tents and food items.

Pakistan's monsoon rain which started Sep 3 has killed almost 300 people and have displaced thousands.
