United Nations, Sep 29: Indian nominee for the post of UN Secretary General Shashi Tharoor remained in the second position trailing South Korea's Ban Ki-Moon in the third informal straw poll with reduced number of favourable votes.

In the poll conducted in the Security Council on Thursday, Tharoor got eight votes in his favour, less than the 10 he received in the first two polls.

There were three votes against him and four expressed no opinion.

South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon remained on top, getting 13 votes in his favour, one against and one having no opinion.

In the last straw poll he had got 14 votes in his favour and one against.
