Mumbai, Sep 29: The police arrested a couple from outside Home Minister RR Patil’s house on Wednesday night on charges of attempting to commit suicide. According to the Malabar Hill police,
Sardarilal Sitaram Upal, 60 and his wife Neelam, 51, residents of GTB Nagar in Sion-Koliwada, threatened to end their lives when security personnel outside Patil’s bungalow, Chitrakut, in Malabar Hill, refused them permission to meet the minister. The incident occurred at 10.45 pm.
On checking the cloth bag they were carrying, the security men found a two-litre kerosene can. The couple was later handed over to the Malabar Hill police.
They reportedly told cops outside Patil’s house that they wanted to meet the minister because the Antop Hill police did not heed their complaint regarding their tenant not vacating their room for the past three months.
The cops said this was no time meet the minister, and asked them to come next morning. That’s when the couple threatened to commit suicide if Patil didn’t meet them then, the police said. They were remanded in judicial custody till October 12 by the metropolitan magistrate’s court at Girgaon, on Thursday.
