New Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS): Teams from the northeast had a fruitful day at the 55th Subroto Cup Football Tournament as Mizoram's defending champions Government Chawngfianga Middle School, Birjhora Higher Secondary School of Assam and Nagaland's Greenwood High School qualified for the quarter-finals of the Under-14 event at the Ambedkar Stadium here Friday.
The Birjhora schoolboys advanced to the knockouts after topping Pool D by beating Bethany Convent High School, Salcete, 3-0. Raja Brahma, Narayan and Ahmorendra scored for the winning team.
In Pool C, Ramhlunchhunga's brace helped the Mizoram school beat Nepal's Lok Smriti Higher Secondary School and earned an entry into the last eight.
In Pool B, Nagaland's Greenwood High School pumped in 32 goals past a hapless Government Senior Secondary School, Lakshadweep, with striker Kito, Imlong and Maraiwibo scoring six times and Temsu (2), Tokayi (4), Solomon (3), Vikethzo (1) and Nigathu (3) and an own-goal rounding off the scoring list.
Elsewhere, NNMHS, Kerala, downed Defence Services College, Sri Lanka, 15-0 in an inconsequential Pool A match while Jharkhand's St. Igantius High School beat Maharashtra High School and Junior College 7-0 in a Pool B match.
In Pool C, Sainik School from Manipur beat Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Chhattisgarh 8-0.
The Nagaland team will take on National Cadet Corps (NCC), Maharashtra, in the first quarterfinal Sunday while the Assam boys face the Mizoram team in the second quarterfinal.
