Indian track cyclists fail to qualify


Incheon, Sep 20 (IANS): Indian track cyclists - both men's and women's teams - failed to qualify for their sprint finals at the Incheon International Velodrome in the 17th Asian Games here Saturday.

In the men's section, the team comprising Alan Baby, Amrit Singh and Amarjit Singh Nagi finished seventh out of nine teams, managing to clock 24.747 seconds, 19.661s and 20.236s to put up a combined score of one minute and 4.644 seconds.

South Koreans Son Jeyong, Im Chaebin and Kang Dongjin won the gold while Xu Chao, Hu Ke and Bao Saifei of China bagged silver. Japan's Watanabe Kazunari, Nakagawa Seiichiro and Kawabata Tomoyuki clinched bronze.

In the women's event, the team of Kezia Vargheese and Deborah finished seventh and last in the heat. The duo timed 27.063 seconds on Lap 1 and 21.845s on Lap 2 to come out with a combined time of 48.908s.

Chinese Zhong Tianshi and Gong Jinjie took gold, hosts Lee Hyejin and Kim Wongyeong won silver while Hsiao Mei Yu and Huang Ting Ying of Chinese Taipei won bronze.
