India beat Sri Lanka 8-0 in Asiad hockey


Incheon, Sep 21 (IANS): The Indian men's hockey team got off to a flying start in the Asian Games defeating neighbours Sri Lanka 8-0 at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium here Sunday.

In their first ever 60-minute match in the new four-quarter format, World No.9 India drubbed the minnows with drag-flicker Rupinder Pal Singh scoring a hat-trick.

Ramandeep Singh chipped in with two goals while Nikkin Thimmaiah, Chinglensana Singh and V.R. Raghunath scored a goal each.

India next take on Oman Tuesday.
