Asian Games: Nair fails to qualify for 50m backstroke final


Incheon, Sep 22 (IANS) Indian swimmer Prathapan Nair Monday failed to reach the final of the 50-metre backstroke competition in the 17th Asian Games at the Park Tae-hwan Aquatics Centre here.

Competing in heat 3 of the event, Nair finished fifth with 25.56 seconds. Top two swimmers of each heats qualify for the final, which will be held later Monday.

Asian record holder Junya Koga (24.24 seconds) regained his games record in heat 3 after his 2010 Asiad mark of 25.08 seconds was betterd by 0.1 seconds in heat 2 by Japan's Ryosuke Irie. Koga improved his performance by 21 seconds to take back the record within minutes from Ryosuke.
