Nawaz Sharif leaves to attend UNGA

Islamabad, Sep 23 (IANS): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Tuesday left for New York where he will address a session of the 193-nation UN General Assembly (UNGA) this Saturday (Sep 27).

Sharif's 18-member delegation includes his advisors Sartaj Aziz and Tariq Fatemi. They will first travel to London from where they will go to the US, Geo News reported.

Apart from addressing the UNGA, the prime minister will also hold meetings with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and leaders of other countries.

World leaders will congregate in New York this week to tackle a host of crises: The violence Islamic State (IS) militants are wreaking in Iraq and Syria, the exponential spread of the deadly Ebola virus in Africa, and deadlocked negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.

The UN chief has said over 140 heads of state or government will attend the assembly's annual "general debate", commencing Wednesday.
