New Delhi, Oct 2: All arrangements are in place by Tihar Jail authorities here to hang Mohammad Afzal Guroo on October 20, for his role in the December 13, 2001 terror attack on the Indian Parliament.

Meerut's Mammu, the son of India's most infamous hangman Kalu, will execute Afzal, highly placed Tihar Jail official told UNI on Sunday.

Afzal was condemned to death on September 26 by Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur, to be carried out at 0600 hrs at Tihar Jail.

He will be hanged under the supervision of Mr B S Jariyal, the Jailer of Jail No 1. He will be shifted to Jail No 3. An order to this effect will be issued ''very soon'', the jail official said.

Jariyal has been posted in Tihar Jail since 1981. In his tenure, he has overseen seven hangings which include the high profile Sanjay and Geeta Chopra case in which Ranga and Billa were executed in 1982.

He was also present during the execution of Maqbul Butt of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in 1984.

In 1985, in the Dr Vidya Jain case, he was also present on duty during the hanging of the accused Ujagar Singh.

Jariyal was also involved when Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh were hanged in 1989 for assassinating Mrs Indira Gandhi.

Meanwhile, highly placed Tihar Jail official said Afzal's brother Ijaz Ahmed met him on Friday in the jail. The source added that after meeting his brother, Afzal slept peacefully last night and also offered 'namaz' five times a day Afzal who was imprisoned in Jail No 3 was shifted to Jail No 4 on Friday due to security concerns.

Afzal's family has applied for clemency to President A P J Abdul Kalam to spare him from the gallows.
