India fare poorly in 50m rifle prone women's finals

Incheon, Sep 24 (IANS) Indian shooters Raj Chaudhary, Lajjakumari Tilakpuri Gauswami and Tejaswini Manojrao Muley had a poor outing Wednesday with all three finishing well behind medal places in the 50m rifle prone women's finals at the 17th Asian Games here.

Raj Chaudhary (614.6) was the top placed Indian in the event finishing a lowly 22nd place at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range here.

Lajjakumari (613.7) and Tejaswini (608.8) fared even worse, ending in the 25th and 36th place, respectively.

Raj started off brilliantly notching the second highest score (104.4) of the first series but poor shooting in the next five series saw her drop dramatically down the pecking order.

Lajjakumari's best shooting came in the third series notching a score of 104.2 but her performance in the other series meant she was never in the reckoning.

With scores of below 100 in the second and sixth series, Tejaswini was the poorest of Indian shooters, finishing seven places from the bottom.

Narantuya Chuluunbadrakh of Mongolia took the gold while Malaysia's Nur Suryani Binti Taibi Mohamed took silver. Bitna Eum of South Korea took home the bronze.
