Mangalore, Oct 3: Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO) has exported 40 tonnes of a cocoa drink manufactured by it, akin to Bournvita and the like, to South Africa on an experimental basis.
CAMPCO sells the product under the brand name `Winner' in the domestic market. It is being exported under a different brand name.
CAMPCO president S R Rangamurthy has said that if the venture clicked the cooperative society was likely to get an order to export 70 tonnes of the beverage to South Africa every month.
CAMPCO has exported cocoa powder, cocoa butter and chocolates to Australia and countries in Europe.
He said 150 tonnes of cocoa beans would be imported from the Ivory Coast for crushing at CAMPCO's chocolate factory at Puttur.
He said sales of its finished and semi-finished products had grown by 15 per cent in the domestic market so far in this financial year (2006-07). There was good demand for éclairs manufactured by CAMPCO.
The annual general body meeting of CAMPCO held here on September 28 approved the amendments made to its bylaws to enable CAMPCO to venture into the production of organic manure and hydroelectricity and take up banking and goods transportation activities.
