Incheon, Sep 24 (IANS): China swept two weightlifting gold medals at the Asian Games here Wednesday as Xiang Yanmei won the women's 69kg and Tian Tao was crowned in the men's 85kg.
Xiang broke snatch Asian Games record by lifting 118kg and totalled 268kg to win the gold, beating Ryo Un-hui of North Korea to the second place. Huang Shih Hsu of Chinese Taipei won bronze medal with the total lift of 233kg, reports Xinhua.
"I feel very happy. It is the first gold medal for China in women's weightlifting. I felt some pressure because there weren't any medals," Xiang said after the match.
"From the beginning until the end I was confident. Even if I had failed the two attempts, I was going to win," she added.
Thanks to the last lift, Tian took home the gold of men's 85kg after breaking the clean and jerk Asian Games record by lifting 218kg, and also the total lift record with 381kg.
"It was the first time that I tried 218kg in clean and jerk. It is marvellous. I could not believe that I did it," said Tian excitedly.
Rostami Kianoush of Iran took the silver with a total of 380kg, while the bronze went to Uzbekistan's Alimov Ulugbek with 369kg.
