London, Sep 25 (IANS): A court in Britain has given a 22-year jail term to a man for killing his two-month-old baby daughter, a media report said Thursday.
Aurimas Medvedevas, 23, who had been in sole care of the baby after her mother left for work, admitted to repeatedly striking, biting and violently shaking the defenceless baby, who suffered considerably for hours before dying in Peterborough last year, BBC reported.
The body was found in a bed by her mother, Dzesika Urbikaite, when she returned home. It was her first day back at work after maternity leave, police said.
Medvedevas had initially denied murdering the baby, but changed his plea to guilty at the Old Bailey court.
Judge Timothy Pontius described the case as "distressing and tragic".
He said the brutality of the attack almost "defied belief". The bite marks on the baby's head were "particularly shocking" and "demonstrated a callousness that is as incredible as it is inhuman", the judge added.
