Kundapur, Oct 5: The Suvarna Karnataka Cultural procession, which will pass through Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Chickmagalur districts, kicked off by District in Charge Minister Dr V S Acharya in a function which was presided over VP Zilla Parishat, Sharada Bijoor at Gandhi Maidan in Byndoor today, Oct 5 at 10 am.

In his inaugural speech, Dr.Acharya called for active involvement by the public in safe guarding the borders of the State and in uplifting the District to no 1 position in the Education sector. With a patriotic fervor he recalled & paid tributes to the sacrifices of the elders who have contributed for the unity and unification of the State and wished that the Dibbana will pass through the district with all the glitter and glory.

Chandrashekar Holla, President of Dist.Kannada Sahitya Parishat welcomed and gave incidental speech.

Former President of State Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Harikrishna Punarooru wished all the success to the Dibbana.

V Ponnuraj, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi, P Hemalatha, CEO, Zilla Panchayat, M Junjanna, Information Officer, S.Raju Poojary Madan Kumar ZP Members, Bhaskar Devadiga, Sadhashiva D, Deepak Kumar Shetty TP Members Kundapur, Krishna Devadiga, Seshi Subba Mogaveera, Mangala DK Presidents of Yadthare, Byndoor & Paduvari Grama Panchayat, LT Sridhar. Spcl Tehashildar, other officials and dignitaries were present on this grand occasion.

R S Dalavai, Assistant Director, Department of Kannada Culture proposed vote of thanks.

Wellknown persons fo the region Chandrashekar Holla, Ganesh Karanth, Kandavara Raghurama Shetty, Balakrishna Achary (National Sports person) and Ganesh Gangolli were honoured on this event.

The Suvarna Samskrithi Dibbana, a cultural procession, which will start from eight selected centres will culminate in Bangalore on November 1.

In Udupi district, the Dibbana which will be a seven-day affair, started from Byndoor today on October 5.

The Dibbana reflects the cultural heritage of coastal Karnataka with tableaus, depicting the literary works and folk arts of the state.

From Byndoor dibbana will move to Kundapura on October 6, then to Kota (the birth place of late Dr K Shivaram Karanth) on October 7, Brahmavar on October 8, Udupi October 9 and 10, Kaup October 11, Hebri on October 12 and Karkala on October 13.

A committee comprising of local artistes will organise various cultural and literary programmes to welcome the procession to their cities.

During the inagural function held today Chandrashekhar Holla delivered a lecture on the unification of Karnataka State, while Prof Rajendra Nayak delivered a talk on Prof Goplakrishna Adiga. Kavi Ghoshti (Poets’ meet), Nada geethe (songs praising the land), Bhava geethe, Marathi traditional dances, Bharath natya, cultural programmes are arranged for the occasion.

Government has provided Rs 3 lakh for the district and major portions of spending will be borne by local committees. NSS, NCC, Bharath Seva Dal units will took part in the procession.
