Udupi, Oct 6: 4 Students of Manipal Institute of Computer Technology (MICE) are among the 1000 students selected by NCERT as National Talent Scholars for the year 2006 and will receive scholarships of Rs. 500 per month starting from July 2006 till their Ph.D.

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) awards 1000 Scholarships  to the talented students of Class X each year (Class VIII from this year) through its National Talent Search Scheme and then nurture the talent by way of providing financial assistance in the form of monthly scholarship.
 
National Talent Search Examination is conducted in two stages: I Stage – State Level: This written examination is held in the month of November. 4000 students are selected from different states of India.  Three hundred and one students from Karnataka were selected in the examination held on November 27, 2005. Fourteen (14) among them were MICE Students.  II Stage – National Level: NCERT conducts a national level written exam for the students selected at the state level and shortlists 2000 students for the interview. In the written examination held on14th May 2006, eight (8) students from MICE were short listed for interview. After the interview, NCERT selects 1000 students as the National Talent Scholars and four (4) among them are MICE students.

Students who are selected at the state level but are not in the final selection will receive a scholarship of Rs. 2000/- per year for 2 years.
