Suspected IS member arrested in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Sep 26 (IANS): Police detectives in Bangladesh claimed to have arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State (IS) Sunni radical group in Dhaka, media reported Friday.

Masudur Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner, said Md. Hafizur Rahman was arrested from Purana Paltan area of the city Thursday night, bdnews24.com reported.

He was suspected of having IS "connections", Rahman said.

Earlier Wednesday, police detained two youths from Dhaka's Segunbagicha and Ramna, allegedly for planning to join the IS.

Police had made similar claims after arresting banned outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen's (JMB) acting chief and six other militants Sep 20.

The extremist IS organisation has declared a caliphate in areas under its control in the crisis-ridden countries of Iraq and Syria.

It recently published videos showing the beheading of two US journalists and a British aid worker.
