Ansari to represent India at new Afghan president's swearing-in

New Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS): Vice President Hamid Ansari will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani, which is to be held on Monday.

"Vice President Hamid Ansari will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of the new president of Afghanistan," ministry of external affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.

Ghani was declared Afghanistan's next president last Sunday after he signed a power-sharing deal with rival Abdullah Abdullah, which brought to an end the prolonged uncertainty over the presidential election.

According to the power-sharing deal, Abdullah will be the chief executive officer (CEO) of the national government.
