Swedish politician under fire for Hitler selfie

Stockholm, Sep 26 (IANS): A politician in Sweden has come under fire for posting a picture of himself dressed as Hitler on his Facebook page, a media report said Friday.

Ola Sjokvist, a Sweden Democrat from Avesta, around 140 km from capital Stockholm, posted the picture on Facebook in 2010 but it caught the attention of the Avesta Tidning newspaper Friday, The Local online newspaper reported.

It appears that Sjokvist took a photo of himself in a mirror with a Hitler-style moustache on his upper lip and his hair combed to the side.

"It was nothing more than a fancy-dress party of a friend of mine," he said when confronted by the daily.

The costume marks the second time this month that someone with Sweden Democrat connections has landed in hot water due to Nazi-related accessories. Earlier, a 20-year-old woman stepped down from a party post after she was snapped wearing a Nazi armband.

In March last year, another Swede who dressed as a Nazi for a party was acquitted of hate crime charges.
