Indian women lose to Japan in basketball quarters


Incheon, Sep 28 (IANS): Indian women's team were outclassed 37-70 by Japan in the quarter-final of the basketball event at the 17th Asian Games here Sunday.

A brilliant performance by the Japanese women routed India at the Hwaseong Sports Complex Gymnasium and put an end to their medal hopes in the event.

India were no match in any quarter with no Indian player even getting into the double digits. Raspreet Sidhu and Kavita Akula were the top-point getters with nine each.

Japan's Maya Kawahara scored a match-high 10 points. The Japanese, though, managed an incredible feat with every single player -- starter or bench - being amongst the points.
