AIADMK cadres seething with anger against DMK

Chennai, Sep 28 (IANS): AIADMK cadres were Sunday seething with anger against the DMK, as they are convinced it is the latter that is responsible for the current travails of their leader J. Jayalalithaa.

Assembling outside the party headquarters here, emotionally charged AIADMK women in a choked voice praised their leader and listed the various welfare measures initiated by her that benefited the weaker sections of the state populace.

"Amma must be there to rule the state. What will happen to the poor now," a woman party worker shouted.

AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Saturday was sentenced to four-year jail term and Rs.100 crore fine in the disproportionate assets case by a court in Bangalore.

The cadres of the ruling party blamed the DMK for foisting a false case on their leader which has resulted in her conviction.

Huge number of AIADMK workers gathered outside the party office as the legislators were set to elect their new leader in the assembly.

As expected, AIADMK legislators elected 63-year-old Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam as the leader of the legislature party.

Grim-faced AIADMK legislators and other leaders did not speak to the waiting media.
