Sensex down 84 points; metal stocks drop


Mumbai, Sep 29 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Monday was trading 84.27 points or 0.32 percent down as metal stocks dropped.

Good buying was observed in healthcare sector; while selling pressure was seen in metal, banking and capital goods sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 26,694.41 points, was trading at 26,542.05 points (at 09.19 a.m.) in the early session, down 84.27 points or 0.32 percent from the previous day's close at 26,626.32 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 26,699.74 points and a low of 26,540.14 points in the trade so far.

The S&P healthcare index gained 118.62 points; while metal index plunged by 81.84, bankex dropped by 78.60 points and capital goods index slipped by 79.26 points.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading 6.30 points or 0.08 percent down at 7,962.55 points.
