Cars destroyed in Gurgaon's Maruti service centre fire


Gurgaon, Sep 29 (IANS): Six cars and spare parts at a Maruti service centre were destroyed in a fire here Monday while six people were injured, a fire officer said.

"The fire broke out on the at third floor of Apra Auto's sale and service centre near sector 14 around 11 a.m. The floor was the big storeroom of spare parts," Fire officer I.S. Kashyap told IANS.

"Three fire tenders were immediately sent to the spot from sector 29 fire office and otherss were also informed. Total 25 fire tenders were pressed into service to control the blaze," he added.

The fire spread to the second floor where cars were parked for service.

The fire damaged six cars, with some completely gutted.

"As many as 150 cars parked on the second floor were saved from the blaze," he said, adding six people, including fire officer Birbal Sharma, suffered minor injuries.

Short circuit has been stated to be the reason behind the fire.

"Damage and loss of property would have been much more if the accident had taken place at night," he added.
